After 53 days in the NICU, our baby boy is home 🖤

I had the best first Mother’s Day at home with my boys and my momma, who is always there to swoop in when we need her. Milo can’t wait to get more Nana cuddles soon with Karen Anderson too - we are so grateful for both of our kind and caring moms. As always, I’m reminded that I have the sweetest partner in Desmond and I’m loving every second of watching him be the best daddy to Milo. And of course driving him crazy. Because I can’t help it 😂

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out to check on us over the last two months. We don’t know what we would have done without our amazing friends and family making sure Milo had everything he needed when he got home and supporting us through our NICU stay and a very traumatic birth. We have some big scary changes coming up and I’m just holding onto the joy of almost 7 years with this guy in the midst of our current chaos. There are so many unknowns in our life that are weighing on both of us - we are equal parts anxious and excited to see what’s next and I can’t wait to share when we know more 🤗

And if you’re ever in need of a serotonin boost, I highly recommend digging up old goofy videos. It really is so cool to see how much we’ve changed over the years and how much change is still coming. 🖤

My students performed in our Halloween recital on Saturday and I have exactly ONE photo to show for it 🤣 I am so proud of my kiddos hard work and am thoroughly enjoying a slow start to my Monday.

Desmond had his own performance on Saturday too which he killed, but of course we both had to miss each other's concerts. 😭 I am always amazed at how hard he works and I don't know what I would do without him cheering me on even when it's from a distance. 🤗 Also huge thank you to my mom, who was EXHAUSTED after flying back from California on Friday and still showed up to help me set up and get everything done. 🥰

This weekend was so busy but as I was getting ready for this week, I realized that me 3 years ago would be SO PROUD of what my career looks and feels like now. I feel so lucky to teach and play flute full time and that I get to open my home to such sweet students and their families. It was so hard to know in the moment if taking a leap towards being 100% self employed would truly work out or if I would end up regretting the whole thing. I'm so glad I chose to be vulnerable and trust that I knew what was best for me (and that Desmond is Desmond and always has faith in me), because today I know I'm right where I need to be. I'm also frequently stressed and scatter brained and I learn more about myself and what to do (and not to do) every day, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

My brain is already planning for our holiday recital in the background, but today I'm choosing REST wherever I can and allowing myself to lean fully into joy (which let's be honest are both hard for me 🙃)

As we go into another week of Distance Learning, there are a few things I 100% do not miss about my typical Monday: .

My morning alarm(s)
Never getting to use the restroom 🙃
30 little people needing my attention all at once
.

.
If I'm being honest, I LOVE SLEEPING IN. But going into another week of this makes it really hard not the think about the things I really miss about what used to be my routine and the reality that these things can't be replicated online: .
.
.
Seeing cute little faces light up when they see me early in the morning before school starts (even though I am pretty much still asleep) .
Hearing little ones sing songs from my class in the hallway .
Hearing my older grades singing and laughing because for a second they forgot to be "big kids" in front of each other .
Coming home with a dozen stories about the WEIRD stuff kids said to me that day .
30 little people needing my attention all at once .

All of this just to say I miss my kids 😭 As much as I love sleeping in and having time to play the flute, I'm officially ready for things to go back to normal as soon as possible. .

I've had plenty of time to organize my flute room lately and it's nice to see at least some of the space looking how I want it to! (@adesmond29 yes, there's a saxophone in here, but it's 100% a flute room 💁). I hope everyone is finding some sort of routine in this new world of NTI and Skype lessons. It's definitely an adjustment to only see flute students via the internet 😳 Stay safe, friends (and stay home)! ✨
